Toronto Ledger

About

The Toronto Ledger is a daily news briefing on industry in Hogtown.

We never report on individual crimes or partisan politics, and we treat local-interest stories with scepticism. Instead our daily briefings are a catalogue of business, technology, policy, urbanism, culture and science: the actions and decisions that change the city.

Toronto is one of the world’s great financial, industrial and creative centres. The Ledger is the news that those pursuing original, excellent and wise work in the city need to know.

We are inspired by the old taverns, reading rooms and stock exchange that became daily gathering places for merchants, bankers, artists, politicians and industrialists in the 1800s. They formed not only an information network but a culture. Like those places, we aim to be warm, welcoming and worthy of your time.

The brief is composed each day by a series of AI agents, according to careful standards that we are continually improving. News is pulled from approved outlets and official sources. We then add background from original research. Every fact is linked to its source. Figures and charts are overwhelmingly sourced from official government and industry datasets. Each issue is reviewed and lightly edited, if needed, before it is published.

Our tagline, “Industry. Intelligence. Integrity.”, was the City of Toronto’s motto until 1998.

Send us a correction and we will add it to the website and the next issue. We use Buttondown as our email provider. The Ledger is a project by The Toronto Society.
